June 17 Meeting - Double the Speaker Fun with both Michael Bourgon & Margaret Westrell

Monday, June 15, 2015 5:39:00 PM Categories: Meeting

Not one but two members of the Emdeon dream team are taking stage this Wednesday!

This is a farewell tour for Lieutenant Commander Westrell before she heads back to Baltimore to navigate the SQL seas from there. She will be greatly missed.

This is also your last chance to see Bourgon before he presents at 24 hours of PASS this coming June 24th. If you've missed him speaking seven times previously at SQL Saturdays around the country, you can be sure he saves the best interpretive dance numbers for us!

Come see how they Solve Problems at Scale and learn when "How much?" becomes "Too much!"

Topic: "How much?" becomes "Too much!"
Organizations are collecting and storing increasing amounts of data.  While business
managers discuss analyzing data, it is often left to IT and the DBAs to figure out how to
store and manage that data.  In this short presentation, Margaret will discuss data
retention, a facet of data governance, review the options SQL Server offers, and present
an effective, low impact, method for pruning large tables to maintain a manageable amount
of data.

Margaret Westrell has been a SQL Server DBA for 3 years and is currently lead for an DBA
operations group wrestling with substantial data growth.  Prior to being a DBA, she was a
.Net developer of database-centric applications.  In her first career, she served in the Navy during the Cold War and Operation Desert Storm.  When not taming space issues, she enjoys spoiling her husband, the family dog and two cats, and keeping up with her daughter at college.
