A Chalk Talk on Scheduling: Understanding How SQL Server Decides What to Do

In this informal and interactive session, we will discuss how SQL Server determines what to execute.  Along the way, we'll cover locking and blocking as well as wait statistics.  If we finish early, be ready for some Pictionary!

Trevor Barkhouse is an Escalation DBA for Terremark Worldwide, Inc., a leading global provider of IT infrastructure services.  His passions are automation, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.  Trevor has spoken at many user group meetings, seven SQLSaturday events, the 2010 Houston TechFest, CodeStock 2011, and last two the PASS Community Summits (North American).

This spring SQLRally 2012 is coming to Dallas. If you get the chance to vote for speakers, vote for Trevor and all the great folks who facilitate our meetings.  http://www.sqlpass.org/Community/PASSBlog/entryid/342/Dallas-Hosting-PASS-SQLRally-2012.aspx

This July is our 5th anniversary meeting as the Fort Worth SQL Server User Group. As a gift, we were given SQL Server Denali CPT 3! It was really great of Microsoft to get that out the door for us like that. Very thoughtful. It's like "Uncle Bill" sent us flowers. There will be additional pictures, food and  merriment. Can't wait to see you all again.

Book Swap: We cleaned out our bookshelves. We're bringing them in for a book swap and give away. If you bring books, please take them back home if no one takes them. We will already have a truck load and don't wish to add to it. Bring your wheel barrows.
